Application of Hamamatsu MPPC to T2K Neutrino Detectors
A special type of Hamamatsu MPPC, with a sensitive area of 1.3x1.3mm^2
containing 667 pixels with 50x50um^2 each, has been developed for the near
neutrino detector in the T2K long baseline neutrino experiment. About 60 000
MPPCs will be used in total to read out the plastic scintillator detectors with
wavelength shifting fibers. We report on the basic performance of MPPCs
produced for T2K.Comment: Contribution to the proceedings of NDIP 2008, Aix-les-Bains, France,

Liquid Xenon Detectors for Positron Emission Tomography
PET is a functional imaging technique based on detection of annihilation
photons following beta decay producing positrons. In this paper, we present the
concept of a new PET system for preclinical applications consisting of a ring
of twelve time projection chambers filled with liquid xenon viewed by avalanche
photodiodes. Simultaneous measurement of ionization charge and scintillation
light leads to a significant improvement to spatial resolution, image quality,
and sensitivity. Simulated performance shows that an energy resolution of <10%
(FWHM) and a sensitivity of 15% are achievable. First tests with a prototype
TPC indicate position resolution <1 mm (FWHM).Comment: Paper presented at the International Nuclear Physics Conference,

HBT: A (mostly) experimental overview
I will present a review of the field of Hanbury Brown-Twiss interferometry in
relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The "HBT puzzle" is explored in detail,
emphasizing recent theoretical attempts to understand the persisting puzzle. I
also present recent experimental results on azimuthally sensitive HBT, HBT of
direct photons, and some surprises in the comparison of HBT results from p+p
and Au+Au collisions at RHIC.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures. Proceedings of the Quark Matter 2004 conference

Fast hadron freeze-out generator, part II: noncentral collisions
The fast Monte Carlo procedure of hadron generation developed in our previous
work is extended to describe noncentral collisions of nuclei. We consider
different possibilities to introduce appropriate asymmetry of the freeze-out
hyper-surface and flow velocity profile. For comparison with other models and
experimental data we demonstrate the results based on the standard
parametrizations of the hadron freeze-out hyper-surface and flow velocity
profile assuming either a common chemical and thermal freeze-out or the
chemically frozen evolution from chemical to thermal freeze-out. The C++
generator code is written under the ROOT framework and is available for public
use at http://uhkm.jinr.ru/Comment: 27 pages including 7 figures as EPS-files; prepared using LaTeX

The STAR Time Projection Chamber: A Unique Tool for Studying High Multiplicity Events at RHIC
The STAR Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is used to record collisions at the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The TPC is the central element in a
suite of detectors that surrounds the interaction vertex. The TPC provides
complete coverage around the beam-line, and provides complete tracking for
charged particles within +- 1.8 units of pseudo-rapidity of the center-of-mass
frame. Charged particles with momenta greater than 100 MeV/c are recorded.
Multiplicities in excess of 3,000 tracks per event are routinely reconstructed
in the software. The TPC measures 4 m in diameter by 4.2 m long, making it the
largest TPC in the world.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figure
